FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Trash service in Flint will be halted as the city works out to secure a trash collecting contract.

A Flint city council member is suing Mayor Karen weaver for not renewing a trash-hauling contract with republic services.

Mayor Weaver is accused of ignoring an eight to one vote that was against giving the contract to Rizzo Environmental Services.

The mayor responded by saying she hopes to have a new agreement in place by the middle of this upcoming week.

Meanwhile residents are being asked not to leave their trash at the curb to prevent animals from making the situation worse.
