Hundreds of people will soon hit the pavement to raise suicide awareness and the importance of mental wellness.

It's called the Walk for Hope and it's happening later month on August 14.

According to the CDC, in 2014 over 42,773 people died by suicide in the United States. More than 1,300 of those deaths were in Michigan.

All funds raised by the event are used locally to help lower that number.

Guests can enjoy special activities and music. There are resource tables and guest speakers.

The event is free, but donations help the organization continue to support those who struggle with mental health issues.
