People all across Mid-Michigan made their way to the polls Tuesday to cast their vote in the primary elections, and now the results are in.

U.S. House District 10

In another key election, businessman Paul Mitchell snagged the GOP nomination to serve in Congress.

Mitchell beat five other Republicans in the race for Michigan's 10th district, a seat currently held by Representative Candice Miller who didn't run for re-election.

Mitchell's opposition in November will be Democrat Frank Accavitti, Jr. who ran unopposed.

Saginaw County Sheriff

The race for Saginaw County Sheriff is all but decided as William Federspiel claims the most votes.

Federspiel faced three challengers – Robert Karl, Bill Gutzwiller and Brian Booker.

At the end of the night Tuesday, he came out ahead with 44 percent of the vote.

Federspiel said he wanted to keep the momentum going and is grateful to residents for keeping him in office.

Bay County Executive

After nearly 24 years in office, Bay County Executive Thomas Hickner lost his seat to former U.S. Rep. Jim Barcia. Barcia won by 60 percent.

“I’m very honored to concentrate all my efforts on my home county that has been so good to me,” Barcia said.

Barcia will take his new position on January 1.

Bay County Sheriff

In Bay County, Jason Holsapple ran as the only Republican, alongside Democrats Troy Cunningham, Robert Lee and Terry Spencer for sheriff.

All were hoping to take the reins from Sheriff John Miller, who’s retiring after 20 years in office. In November, Holsapple will face Cunningham for the position.

Cunningham beat out the other Democrats by almost 57 percent on Tuesday.

Midland County

In Midland County, voters approved the 911 central dispatch’s request for a small tax increase to maintain operations and improve equipment. They also approved Midland County Mosquito Control’s request for a renewal of its millage.

Genesee County Sheriff

Finally, in Genesee County, Sheriff Robert Pickell ran against fellow Democrat Dan Allen. Pickell won by 58 percent. He will face Republican Matthew Krol in the November election.
