The Michigan Vietnam Veteran Traveling Memorial has made its way to the Saginaw County Fair.

“When they see it they don’t realized there’s this many people from Michigan who died in Vietnam,” said Mike Schneider who helped bring the wall to Chesaning.

Schneider said he hoped to show people how many people paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

The miniature wall lists the names of everyone in the state who died fighting for our country in Vietnam.

“We take them back to their communities, where they’re from. And get them to their families and friends.”

2,654 people in Michigan lost their lives in the Vietnam War. Schneider said you’ll be able to view the memorial until 10pm everyday at the fair.

There will be no extra cost to view the wall, and details and photos in binders are also available that include more information about the listed names.

Larry Money with the American Legion said this is a great tribute that will only add to the tradition of the Saginaw County Fair.

“It’s just a rare privilege to be in Saginaw County and have the opportunity to do these sort of things,” said Money.

The wall moves around the state thanks to volunteer veterans.

Larry Bolter served our country, and he encouraged everyone to come view the wall for a very specific reason.

“Some respect for what those guys did,” said Bolter.

Schneider said it’s not always easy, but he is happy to bring these guys back home.

“It’s hard when the parents and their children, brothers and sisters, they break down crying. And a lot of the veterans do the same. These are guys they served with. It’s absolutely our honor to be with these guys every time we’re out.”
