FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

High lead levels in some Genesee County children raised alarm when a Mid-Michigan water crisis was first exposed. Now, families and individuals can have their blood checked for the life-threatening danger by simply visiting their local drug store.

The Michigan Pharmacists Association issued a statement today announcing a number of member practitioners can draw blood samples and provide customers with results. The organization says it's more convenient that having to make an appointment with a laboratory, doctor's office or hospital. Outcomes of the screenings will be shared with patients, as well as state agencies monitoring the Flint water crisis.

Some Kroger stores, Advanced Care and Central Pharmacies are offering the testing on a pilot, trial basis.
