Flint pharmacies now offering quick lead testing

Posted: Updated:
FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Some local pharmacies are providing Flint residents with quick lead testing as the city’s water crisis continues.

Pharmacists at local Kroger, Advanced Care and Central Pharmacies in Flint are now trained to give quick access to care and report information to physicians and the state for patient follow-ups.

“Our long term goals of this pilot are to not only show the value of pharmacies as proven point-of-care testing sites, but more importantly to serve the City of Flint residents as a trusted resource in the community, keenly positioned to ensure a coordinated public health response,” said Greg Pratt, pharmacist and MPA emergency preparedness coordinator.

Officials said pharmacy-related programs have a record of improving access to care.

The MPA encourages patients who have questions about lead testing to talk to their local pharmacist, their doctors or the health department.
