FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton has charged a 25-year old Flint man in connection with a sexual assault that happened at a residence hall in 2011.

At the time, the dorms did not have any affiliation with the University of Michigan-Flint.

Deaire McClinton has been charged with seven felony counts which included kidnapping, criminal sexual conduct in the first degree, strangulation and assaulting and resisting police.

McClinton is accused of luring a female student back to his room at the Riverfront Residence Hall in downtown Flint on Jan. 21, 2011. Investigators said he claimed he was too drunk to get back to his room on his own and needed her help.

When the two got to the room, investigators said McClinton locked the door and assaulted the girl. She was eventually able to escape and call for help.

The prosecutor said evidence gathered at the time didn't support criminal charges. However, new evidence presented to the prosecutor's office that lead to the charges issued on Aug. 3, 2016.
