FREELAND, MI (WNEM) -

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Tri-City Post will be increasing patrols throughout the month of August.

As motorists are traveling the roadways for the end of summer vacations and back-to-school shopping, troopers will be looking for those not wearing their seatbelts and those driving distracted. MSP says it's all in an effort to keep motorists safe and prevent senseless traffic crashes.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration advises that driver inattention is the leading factor in most crashes and near crashes.
