HURON COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A 26-year-old man was injured in a Huron County house explosion Friday afternoon.

It happened shortly after noon on the 1500 block of Richardson Road in Pigeon.

Fire officials said when the call came in, they arrived to an inferno.

"When we started coming down Richardson Road we could see the smoke. I called for an assist from Windsor Township. On arrival on scene, it was fully engulfed, there was flames from three sides," the official said.

A 26-year-old man inside the home told fire personnel he sat down to eat lunch when the house exploded. He was transported to Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon and later flown to Hurley in Flint.

He had burns on his body and probably suffered from smoke inhalation, assistant Fire Chief Chad Seeley said.

The house is a total loss.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
