HAMPTON TOWNSHIP, MI (AP) -

Consumers Energy has donated surplus items from a closed coal-fired power plant in Bay County to several area organizations.
The Bay City Times reports that the items from the J.C. Weadock facility in Hampton Township included furniture, office equipment, 14 refrigerators, microwaves, coffee pots, vacuums, and 27 gallons of paint.
The items were valued at nearly $18,000 and given to Bay County Habitat for Humanity, the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA and United Way Bay County.
J.C. Weadock closed earlier this year after generating energy for more than 75 years.
