FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Back to the Bricks is right around the corner and this week people are getting hyped up for the classic car show.

Brian Granger is one of many classic car owners getting ready to hit the bricks in Flint. He has a 1965 Corvair Coupe he will take down Saginaw Street. He said this is one of his favorite times of the year.

"It's both looking at the cars and seeing one that you've never seen before and then also running into friends that maybe you haven't seen in a year," Granger said.

Tune Up Week kicked off on Monday at the ITT Technical Institute in Flint Township. Dozens of time-honored vehicles lined the parking lot.

Event organizer Pete Cimbala said the tune up parties are getting bigger every year.

"It started a few years ago and it just keeps growing and growing. Every location we get more people and it really picked up. It's doing exactly what we wanted it to, getting people involved," Cimbala said.

He said there will be more tune up parties in other Genesee Counties throughout the week. The cars will be in Clio on Tuesday and they will visit Linden, Fenton, Davison, Mt. Morris and Beecher throughout the week.

As for Granger, he plans to be at all of the events.

Vic McKinsey owns a 1965 Ford Thunderbird. He was one of many classic car owners cruising into Auto City Speedway as part of Tune Up Week.

He said there's no place he's rather be.

"Just the camaraderie with different people you see. The people you haven't seen for almost a year, you get to see them again," McKinsey said.

Meanwhile, other car owners drove around the track for the first time on Tuesday.

"Years and years ago I used to come out here with the ambulance and we were in the pit on call in case anything happened. And I always wanted to do a lap around the track," said Peggy Lawrence, owner of a 1984 Chevy Cavalier.

The vintage vehicle still has the original portable phone inside.

Hundreds of people showed up on Tuesday to show off their sweet rides.
