SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Authorities said a woman shot and killed at a block party in Saginaw was not the intended target.

Officers were called to the area of 10th and Perkins just after 3 a.m. Tuesday for reports of shots fired.

When they arrived, they found the 31-year-old mother dead.

Michigan State Police Lt. David Kaiser said investigators do not believe Kentera Wafer was the intended target of the shooting. Police are convinced she was an innocent bystander.

"We believe she was shot as two different people were shooting back and forth. This is somebody's mother. She was a mother. She does have children and she was someone's daughter," Kaiser said.

He said the young mother lost her life because of the careless and reckless actions of at least two gunmen.

Police said they have no suspects in custody at this time.
