Emergency repair causes delays on I-75

CLIO, MI (WNEM) -

An emergency repair Tuesday caused drivers to be stuck in traffic on I-75 for several hours.

Michigan Department of Transportation crews had to close several lanes of southbound I-75 near Clio for an emergency pavement repair.

Spokesperson Jocelyn Hall with MDOT said crews were working on a concrete patching job in the southbound lanes of I-75 just north of M-57 when a patch was pulled into the third lane overnight.

Crews had to perform an emergency pavement repair Tuesday morning on the area, leaving only the left lane open. Hall said the area had to be immediately repaired because it is required to have two lanes open during daylight hours.

To temporary fix the situation, the contractor filled the patch with hot mix asphalt and then was allowed to cool. The patch will be properly repaired with concrete once crews are able.

That stretch of highway is four lanes in total. Two lanes are now open in the work zone.
