Jackson Beery is the proud owner of a brand new bike.

The 11-year-old kid from Saginaw was nominated by his mom to receive a bike from Barberi Law's Bike for Kids program.

“His younger brother was diagnosed with autism several years ago. Jackson noticed that sometimes other children aren’t sure how to treat kids with special needs, so he wrote and illustrated a children’s book that gives an inside look, from a brother’s perspective, about what it means to know and love a child with special needs," Jackson's mom wrote in her nomination.

Jackson was given a class assignment to create something he could sell and donate the profits to charity. That's when he decided to write a book about his brother titled "Differences Make No Difference."

The book was published and sold through The 30 page book sold more than 300 copies. It features photos of Jackson with his 6-year-old brother Chase.

Jackson raised $2,005 from the book and sent the money to Africa.

Jackson's dad traveled to West Africa on a mission trip several years ago to help build a church. That's why Jackson decided to send his money to Africa to hep with missionaries.

“So far, they have used the money to pay for medicine for two children with epilepsy, and the school fees for a first-grade girl who is an orphan,” said Amber Beery, Jackson's mom.

Jackson picked out his bike on Aug. 3 at Motorless Motion. He also received a helmet and bike lock.

“Kids with special needs are just as cool and awesome as other kids,” Jackson said about writing the book.

Law will give away two more bikes this summer through the program.

Nominations can be submitted here. They must be 150 words or less.
