SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

A meeting to reshape the landscape of a riverfront district is being planned at Saginaw City Hall.

A company was hired to rewrite the zoning code to make the Saginaw riverfront more walker friendly and allow for a variety of businesses.

"Trying to get more residential people back down here so we have people living in the area because that's going to bring in new businesses," said Ryan Seifferlein, realtor and business owner in Saginaw.

Seifferlein also owns the Bancroft Wine and Martini Bar in downtown Saginaw.

He said exciting growth is happening in the city, both downtown and in Old Town.

"People are gonna be in the area. I mean it's gonna bring more businesses because there's more people living here. You have the Bancroft and Eddy apartments down there. You got a lot more people living downtown that probably never would have before," he said.

Not only are buildings being renovated, but new construction is also popping up like the Riverview Brownstone condos.

City leaders will meet on Wednesday with zoning and planning experts.

Stu Kelly, with Shaheen Development, said it's just the beginning of an even better Saginaw.

"Definitely opportunities for business owners for a second wave of investments," Kelly said.
