SANILAC COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A woman was airlifted after her car crashed into the back of a tractor hauling liquid fertilizer.

It happened on Wednesday, August 10 around 2:45 p.m. near the intersection of Washington Road and Goetze Road in Sanilac Township.

The driver of the tractor, 30-year-old Joshua Tanton of Deckerville, told investigators he was slowing down to turn north on Goetze Road when a 1993 Chrysler Lebaron crashed into the rear of the fertilizer spreader.

The car, driven by 19-year-old Coleen Kelly of Carsonville, was trapped under the rear end of the spreader.

Emergency crews were able to free Kelly using the Jaws of Life.

She was airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw for treatment. Her condition is unknown.

The accident is still under investigation.
