FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

A man was hit and killed by a van police say was stolen and then set on fire.

It happened just after 9:30 p.m. on August 10 on Lippincott Boulevard, near Clifford Street in Flint.

Investigators believe the Gregory Beard, 58, was walking westbound on Lippincott after buying some items at a local store when a dark blue van with double rear doors hit him and then took off.

Beard was found dead at the scene.

Police said it was unknown if he was walking in the road with traffic or trying to cross the road. There was a sidewalk in the area. Investigators believe he may have been drinking, the release said.

A van matching the description of the hit-and-run vehicle was reported stolen at a home on Winans Avenue, officials said.

A couple hours after the fatal crash, a vehicle fire was reported near the intersection of Lewis Avenue and Colorado Avenue.

Police found the stolen van engulfed in flames in the driveway of a vacant home.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sgt. Jason Groulx at 810-237-6811 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-422-JAIL.
