Volunteers spruce up homes for annual project

SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Several local homes received a little sprucing up, thanks to volunteers who were willing to work up a sweat.

Nexteer Automotive volunteer Preston Dufresne worked up a sweat on Friday for a good cause.

The Saginaw Shiawassee Habitat for Humanity brought together volunteers from across the Great Lakes Bay Region Friday morning to kick off another revitalization project in Buena Vista.

Volunteers, including nearly 30 from Nexteer, gathered at the Buena Vista Community Center for orientation where they registered, received safety equipment and went over basic safety regulations. Then it was time to go to work.

"We are going to split off into four teams and they're going to go to four different locations and they are going to start painting four different homes," said Myiesha Smith, Nexteer Corporate Affairs coordinator.

She said it's a worthy cause that she's proud to be a part of.

"We are committed to the community in which we live, work and play in," Smith said.

In its fourth annual project, Habitat for Humanity will revitalize a total of nine local homes over the course of just five days.

Executive Director Cameron Brady is proud to belong to such a supportive group.

"The volunteers are like vitamins for me because this is exactly why we do it. I think we're all called to serve other people and it's a great way to engage," Brady said.
