Kid wins bike for helping people

A 10-year-old Mt. Pleasant boy won a bike for being kind to others.

Carter Dole was nominated by his fourth grade teacher Laurie Richards.

“Carter is the kind of student that stands out in a classroom. He is a gentle leader who helps kids naturally. Throughout the year, Carter was a peer buddy to a student with special needs in the classroom," Richards said.

Carter won the bike through Barberi Law's Bike for Kids program. He went with him mom to Motorless Motion on Thursday to pick out his bike, helmet and bike lock.

He said if you don't make friends with students with special needs then they will be bullied by other kids.

"As a parent, it's great to have someone else see those qualities in your child," said Jill Dole, Carter's mom.

Carter will be a fifth grader at Fancher Elementary School this year.
