MICHIGAN, (WNEM) -

In the next seven minutes, a child in the United States will be bullied – and it’s likely happening right here in Michigan.

A new study by WalletHub ranks Michigan as the state with the biggest bullying problem.

The personal-finance website compared bullying-incident rates, truancy costs for schools and the percentage of high school students bullied online across the nation.

The report found Michigan has one of the highest percentages of high school students bullied on school property, as well as a high percentage of students bullied online.

According to the National Education Association, more than 160,000 children miss school every day out of fear of being bullied.

Michigan has both anti-bullying laws and anti-bullying policies.
