Back to the Bricks revs up for 12th year

MUNDY TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

The engines were roaring as the 12th annual back to the bricks kicked off. What better way to kick off a celebration of classic cars than watching the classic car movie Bullitt?

"I love it. I've probably seen it 6 or 7 times," one audience member said.

There were plenty of hot rods that looked perfectly at home at the U.S. 23 Drive-In.

"Pretty much I've got a 1969 Camaro SS and it's a five-year ground-up restoration and it's a 454-big block," a man said as he showed off his ride.

But it certainly wasn't just about the cars.

"A thing to bring Flint back. You know, all these cars coming to town and all of these people here," another said.

"Seeing a lot of smiles on a lot of people's faces," the founder of Back to the Bricks Al Hatch said.

He said this car-lovers fest is about giving back to the birthplace of the modern-day automobile, "Positive economic impact to the community is tremendous. Like I was telling you earlier, for every dollar that is spent, it rolls over 7 times."

With hundreds at the Drive-In Tuesday night and hundreds of thousands expected this week, Back to the Bricks will have all of Genesee county revved up.
