CLARE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A Mid-Michigan military veteran was laid to rest on Thursday.

Robert Young, 68, died July 17 at his Missaukee County home.

Stan Mathewson, Vietnam veteran and member of the Forgotten Eagles, has been working to give veterans a proper burial.

"Something to do with them. We are going to take care of these guys," Mathewson said.

On Aug. 18, the Mathewson and other veterans plans to lead a funeral procession from Harrison, in Clare County, to Holly in Oakland County.

Hauling a custom-made hearse behind his bike, Mathewson and the other veterans will attend a military funeral for Young at Great Lakes National Cemetery.

"This is what needs to be done. These men don't need to be forgotten," Mathewson said.

Young was given full military honors during his inurnment on Thursday.

Mathewson said making sure his brothers and sisters get a proper military burial isn't only right, it's his mission.

Young died with family by his side, but Mathewson said there are urns with veterans remains across the state that are unclaimed.

He's working with funeral homes to make sure those who are forgotten get the final ride and final salute they deserve.
