MIDLAND, MI (WNEM) -

Local economic groups from several of Mid-Michigan's major cities came together on Thursday to look at how the communities can work together to help the area thrive.

"We realize the region is important because it helps foster collaboration and networking and relationships between all the folks in our region," said Bill Allen, president of the Midland Business Alliance.

Leaders from four different chamber of commerce organizations in Mid-Michigan joined together for the Great Lakes Bay Region Chamber Summit.

This is the fourth year for the summit that includes business leaders from Midland, Bay City, Saginaw and Mt. Pleasant.

"Great lakes Bay Region is such a vibrant community and it's really important to us to ensure that we are reaching out to all of those various communities and audiences," said Terri Trotter, president and CEO of the Midland Center for the Arts.

Trotter's organization won the Quality of Life Award at this year's summit. She echoes the idea that businesses can be more successful when they focus on the region as a whole.

"When we continue to break out of the idea that here's Midland, here's Bay City, here's Saginaw, and we can harness that collective power. We can draw from all these counties. The things we can do in our venue is so much greater," Trotter said.
