ESSEXVILLE, MI (WNEM) -

Daily tasks for one Mid-Michigan woman have become daunting and dangerous. That's why her neighbor reached out to the TV5 Rescue Squad.

"I never even thought of it. I was just putzing around the way I was doing it," said Patricia Meschke, resident in need.

The Essexville woman knew she needed help, but wasn't sure where to start.

"It's probably taken her anywhere between two and seven minutes to just get up the four or five little steps she has ans it's just become a huge struggle," said Brittny Sting, neighbor.

Meschke is suffering from a variety of health issues, making her mobility a challenge. She uses a walker to get around, but doesn't have the necessary ramp which makes a trip to the mailbox a daunting task.

"If I do get the walker down just so I can get out of the house, I have to throw it on the ground. Which isn't a good idea and then if I do leave, I can't get the walker back in the house because I can't get it back up the steps," Meschke said.

Sting said it breaks her heart to see Meschke struggle, as she has become a mom and grandma to her and her kids.

"She doesn't think twice sometimes about herself. She just does it for other people all the time and I think it's about time that somebody takes care of her and helps her out a little bit and thinks of her first instead of her always doing it for us," Sting said.

With only one way in and out of her home, Meschke said sometimes she feels like a prisoner.
