A 13-year-old Shepherd girl won a bike for her community service efforts.

Chelsea White was nominated for Barberi Law's Bikes for Kids program by her Young Marines unit commander John Smith.

“Over the past two years, she has spent time assisting the Salvation Army in their Red Kettle fundraising drive and assisting Toys for Tots with the distribution of toys to needy children. In addition, she voluntarily shovels snow for an elderly neighbor woman. At present, Chelsea is working at the county fairgrounds with the Community Youth Garden. The crops are given to the Community Soup Kitchen," Smith said in his nomination.

Chelsea won the bike from Motorless Motion.

"It was really surprising," she said.

White said is she needed help, she wouldn't expect someone else to help her, but she believes it's important to help others and not expect anything in return.

White's mom said she is proud of her daughter.

"I have seen her make an effort to make good decisions," Krissy Griffin said. "She has a love for helping people. She gets an emotional rush from it."

Barberi Law gave 10 bikes away this summer.
