FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

A shuttered Mid-Michigan elementary school will soon become a new center for early education in Flint.

The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation announced the former Cummings Elementary School will be renovated into a new education center.

The project will be funded by $1.5 million in grants from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and M.K. Pritzker family foundations.

The foundation said the renovations will prepare the former school for its new role as a source of high quality services for Flint's youngest residents and their families, especially those affected by the water crisis.
