MILFORD -

A Michigan woman could face charges after she allegedly forgot a two-year-old boy in a hot car while she shopped.

The Detroit Free Press reports the woman went to a Walmart store in Lyon Township on Aug. 17 to buy school supplies with her 12-year-old daughter and forgot the toddler was in the vehicle.

The two shopped for 45-60 minutes and found the boy crying in his car seat when they returned. The woman didn’t call 9-1-1 to report the incident until after she returned home, the Detroit Free Press reported.

Outside temperatures were 83-85 degrees in the Milford area on that day.

Medical responders found the child was not in a life-threatening situation and the woman signed off on taking the boy to the hospital.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the woman was visibly upset and told police she is not the boy’s mother but has temporary guardianship.

The case is still under investigation.
