FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Fans of the boxing phenomenon Claressa Shields came out to show their love for the two-time Olympic champion on Thursday.

T-Rex herself was there to celebrate her second gold medal with a special homecoming at Dort Federal Event Center in Flint.

"She made history two times, two gold medals," said Connie Barnett, fan.

Barnett was one of hundreds who said she couldn't miss the event. She said she's most thankful for the role model Shields is to kids in Flint.

"What an influence, you know? It's really great. She means a lot to them. They look up to her. She's hope. She gives them hope that, you know, she did it. I can do it too," Barnett said.

Shields who said she feels like she's still in a dream, wants all of her fans to know if they put in the work they can also achieve the unthinkable.

"All these kids, they just want somebody who comes from the same place they come from to give them some advice and to help them. And I've been inspiring the kids to do great and even though it's through boxing, they can also see my personality and who I am," Shields said.
