Authorities believe speed and/or alcohol were factors in a crash that sent two young children to the hospital.

The crash happened Thursday night at Robert T. Longway and N. Dort Hwy in Genesee County.

Investigators said a 51-year-old man from Flint was driving a red 2000 Oldsmobile Alero on N. Dort Hwy when the car crashed into a 2013 MTA bus. The bus was making a left turn onto Robert T. Longway.

Officials said three young girls in the car, ages 3, 3 and 4, were not in any form of child restraints. Two children were taken to Hurley Medical Center in critical condition.

The driver of the MTA bus, a 58-year-old woman from Flint, and another employee, a 51-year-old man from Flint, were hurt and taken to Genesys in good condition.

Investigators believe speed and/or alcohol were factors in the crash.

"The accident was pretty terrible," said Dakota Hollier.

Holler said the aftermath of the accident.

"The bus had been totally been hit, smooshed up really good in the front, parts everywhere. They had the whole intersection roped off. The red car was completely compounded in the front," Hollier said.

It is unclear at this time which vehicle was at fault.

Hollier said he's not surprised to hear of serious injuries. He believes at least one of the drivers was going way too fast.

"I thought at that point someone would have really had to be hurt because it was so mangled. There's no way you could be going slow at all when you collided at that point. It was at least 35 miles plus," he said.

Anyone with information or who witnessed the crash is asked to call Sgt. Jason Groulx at 1-810-237-6811 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-422-JAIL.
