FLINT, MI (AP) -

The state has challenged a court order that bars a Flint hospital from contacting Michigan health officials about Legionella cases that may be related to the city's lead-tainted water troubles.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says Thursday that a filing was made to the state appeals court.

The Detroit News has reported that the Genesee County judge's order tells McLaren Hospital to talk only to county health officials on Flint water-related matters. A state attorney general's spokeswoman has said investigators are trying to protect health data related to lead poisoning and deaths from Legionnaires' disease.

State health officials say the order prevents them from fully investigating Legionella cases in Genesee County and that the agency has not been able to look into three current cases.
