BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

Too many old houses and not enough people – it’s a problem to be spelled out Monday in Bay City.

According to a new report requested by the city commission, Bay City has too many rundown houses which aren't worth much compared to newer homes built in the surrounding areas.

The report says without taking action, the city could have nearly 7,000 homes that simply aren't needed by the year 2020.

The report has a solution but it's going to cost a pretty penny.

The plan involves a combination of helping people fix up homes deemed worth saving and demolishing others.
