SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Kids across Mid-Michigan are saying goodbye to summer but one local organization is hoping to help get students excited and prepare for the new school year.

Makayla Harris said she's geared up to go back to school all thanks to the LaMarr Woodley Foundation and Victorious Believers Ministries who went in on throwing a back to school bash.

Desmond Bibbs said it's a team effort.

“It means the world. The reason why this relationship works so well because we are both passionate about giving back to our community. As our church, that's one of our feelers is community development. And it's really important for LaMarr to be involved in his community. So we have been able to come together and work collectively to provide resources to get these kids what they need for the first day of school,” Bibbs said.

The two groups came together for a fun filled day. Even though LaMarr couldn't make it, his mom said the event means so much to the Saginaw native.

“He come from the same community that they come from and knows what it's like to not have a lot of material things, so he understands and it makes him happy. He loves to see kids happy,” Janice Staples said.

This was the 8th year for the rally. Most students across Michigan start school the day after Labor Day.
