SHIAWASSEE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Authorities have arrested a man they say is involved in string of breaking and entering incidents in Shiawassee County.

In the early morning hours of Monday, Aug. 29 deputies and detectives from the Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Office were called to the 9000 block of S. Durand Road in Vernon Township for reports of a breaking and entering suspect who just fled on foot.

A homeowner called 911 and said someone had taken property from his garage and he believed the person was trying to steal his vehicle.

After receiving a description of the suspect, police set up a perimeter. A man matching the description was seen on foot near the intersection of Miller and New Lothrop Roads.

When police tried to make contact, the suspect took off running into a cornfield.

Deputies and the Michigan State University K-9 Unit were able to find the man in a field near Byron and Cole Roads after a lengthy search.

The man is now sitting in the Shiawassee County Jail and awaiting arraignment.
