MICHIGAN, (WNEM) -

When it comes to riding in the car there's one more member of the family that needs to be strapped in - your pet.

According to AAA, more than 75-percent of Michigan pet owners like bringing their pets with for a car ride. However, nearly half of them don't restrain them while they're in the car.

This isn't safe because not only does it put your pet at risk if you get into a crash but your four-legged friend can also really distract you as you drive.

AAA said a carrier or a harness works best.

Do you typically take your pet with you on vacations? If so, how do you travel with them in the car?
