WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, MI (AP) -

Authorities are investigating an explosion aboard a boat that injured three teenage girls at an Oakland County marina.

The sheriff's office says Tuesday that the boat exploded after refueling Saturday afternoon at the marina in Waterford Township, northwest of Detroit.

Deputies say a preliminary investigation indicates that gas vapors in the boat's engine compartment may have caused the explosion.

A 13-year-old Waterford Township girl suffered first-degree burns. A 15-year-old girl from West Bloomfield suffered second-degree burns. A 14--year-old Waterford Township girl suffered third-degree burns and was been treated in the burn unit of Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit.

The boat is owned by a 56-year-old Waterford Township man.
