Neighborhood Crime Alert

Couple's home burglarized while they slept

Posted: Updated:
SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

Imagine waking up to find your house had been burglarized while you slept. It’s a situation that has a Mid-Michigan neighborhood on high alert.

Pam Richards woke to see police cars and a lot of activity outside her home on Pasadena Avenue, near Bay Road.

At the time, she thought a neighbor had a medical emergency but what actually happened Tuesday night has her worried.

“Two senior citizens were sleeping last night when someone entered their home,” Saginaw Township Police Chief Don Pussehl said.

Pussehl said the intruder came in through a window. It wasn’t until the couple woke up Wednesday morning that they realized some of their possessions were missing.

“To have someone come in while you're there, is really scary nowadays,” Richards said.

Pussehl said they have not caught the burglar and are not releasing what was stolen, but he urges neighbors to be on the lookout.

“For anyone that might be on foot in their neighborhoods, walking through backyards. If they get up in the night and see a motion sensor light go off, or dogs barking,” Pussehl said.

Richards said in her 15 years living here, she’s never seen any crime like this. She said it’s probably lucky the couple slept through the break-in.

“You never know what they got, whether a gun or knife or just downright mean and want to beat people up,” Richards said.
