A man suspected of stealing a semi-automatic pistol from a gun store has been killed by police in the Grand Rapids area.
The shooting happened Wednesday night in Wyoming, a city near Grand Rapids, about two hours after the theft.
Police say the 25-year-old man was confronted by an officer because of what looked like a gun in his back pocket. Police say the man took out the gun and pointed it at the officer.
Police say the officer then fired in self-defense. The Kent County sheriff's department is investigating.
WOOD-TV says contacting relatives has been difficult for police because the man was a native of Sudan. His name was not released.
