BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

A man was arrested after police say he broke into at least one Mid-Michigan home and stole a vehicle.

On Saturday, Sept. 10 about 12:29 a.m. officers said they tried to stop a vehicle in the area of 3rd and N. Birney Street in Bay City for a traffic violation.

The suspect vehicle stopped and the 20-year-old male driver fled on foot.

Officers were able to locate the man and he was taken into custody.

During their investigation, police found the vehicle was stolen from a home in the 2200 block of McKinley Avenue on the city’s east side.

Officers contacted the homeowners and they were unaware their home had been entered or their vehicle stolen.

About 3 a.m., officers were then told a second home was broken into in the 2100 block of McKinley Avenue. That incident is still under investigation.

“Recently, a message has been circulating on social media in regards to this incident. Although the message was not completely accurate, citizens should always be diligent in securing their property. However in this case, the suspect was apprehended and is in custody,” the department said on Facebook.

The suspect, who lives on the city’s west side, was booked into the Bay County Jail and charged with multiple felonies.
