A man who was being sought in the weekend shooting of his own father has been charged with shooting and wounding a Detroit police sergeant.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office says 21-year-old Marquise Cromer faces charges including assault with intent to commit murder and resisting a police officer. He's due in court Thursday afternoon. Court records don't yet list a lawyer for him.

Police say the sergeant was shot once in his right shoulder around 11 p.m. on Monday with a sawed-off shotgun. Police have said he's recovering.

After the shooting, police say Cromer tried to hop a fence but was tackled by backup officers.

Cromer was arraigned Tuesday on assault with intent to murder charges in Sunday's shooting of his 62-year-old father, who was wounded in the feet.
