Oktoberfest kicks off in Frankenmuth

FRANKENMUTH, MI (WNEM) -

Oktoberfest is back in Michigan's Little Bavaria.

The four day festival continues through Sunday.

Event sponsor president Mark Janson said he couldn't be more excited to continue the Frankenmuth tradition.

"Frankenmuth back in 1996 was sanctioned by the official Oktoberfest in Much, Germany. And that's when the first batch of Hofbraehaus beer was imported into the United States and was imported into Frankenmuth," Janson said.

The celebration started Thursday and runs through Sunday.

One of the events include a wiener dog race on Saturday.

"And we've got a German dance group that flew all the way from Munich, Germany," Janson said.

The group goes by the translated name Full Throttle, Member Simon Huspek said it represents them perfectly.

"It's a fine name because we are on the stage, we are always going full throttle. We always want to make a powerful show and that's why we chose this name," Huspek said.
