Colleges to consider students with criminal records

Posted: Updated:

Those with a criminal past may now have a chance at going to college.

The White House said more than 80 colleges and universities have signed on to its Fair Chance for Higher Education pledge.

Those schools will commit to adopting admissions practices that don’t immediately disqualify applicants because of their criminal records.

They also commit to making internships and job training available.

The White House says about one in five Americans have a criminal record.
