Police: Man threatened students at local high school

CLARE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A local high school was put on high-alert after reports of a man who allegedly threatened to hurt students with a gun.

It happened on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at Farewell High School.

Investigators said a school official called 911 about 8 a.m. saying an adult male walking near the school allegedly made a threat to assault a few students with a firearm.

No weapon was seen by students and no injuries were reported to police.

Deputies identified the 27-year-old man who was walking near the school and interviewed him.

School officials and law enforcement said they took precautionary measures throughout the day to ensure the safety of students, staff, visitors and the community.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident, according to officials.

No further details were released.
