LAPEER COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A Columbiaville man riding his 2011 Harley motorcycle collided with a deer that stepped into his path.

It happened  shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19 at Peppermill Road in Attica.

Brian Putnik, 43, applied his brakes prior to striking the deer but still hit the animal carrying it to the shoulder of the roadway before he crashed.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. The deer did not survive either.

Investigators said Putnik was not wearing a helmet and possessed a valid cycle endorsement with the Michigan Secretary of State.

Neither excessive speed nor alcohol appeared to be contributing factors, according to the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Department.
