OAKLAND COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

An Oakland County sheriff’s deputy was seriously hurt Wednesday morning in an on-duty motorcycle crash.

It happened about 6:27 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21 near Newton Road and Richardson Road in Commerce Township.

Investigators said the deputy, a 46-year-old man and 20-year police veteran, was on duty driving his assigned sheriff’s office motorcycle when a white GMC SUV failed to yield and turned left in front of him.

To avoid hitting the SUV, the deputy laid his motorcycle down in the intersection, causing him to be thrown from the vehicle.

The driver of the SUV, a 61-year-old woman from Commerce Twp., stopped to help the deputy.

He was taken to Beaumont Hospital in Farmington Hills by ambulance. He received injuries to his eye, face, leg and hands. He is currently listed in serious but stable condition.

The crash is still under investigation.
