LANSING, MI (AP) -

A legislative leader says a special committee that investigated Flint's water crisis will issue its report and recommendations within a few weeks.

Republican Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof disclosed the timeline to reporters after another panel approved Flint-related legislation Wednesday.

Democrats on the Republican-led investigatory committee have been frustrated that no report has been issued four months after Flint hearings concluded. They want changes to Michigan's emergency manager law and to lower the amount of lead that's acceptable in drinking water.

Republican Gov. Rick Snyder says major policy reforms are unlikely until 2017.

Meanwhile, the Senate Government Operations Committee unanimously passed bills Wednesday to allow for the creation of an authority to manage Flint's recovery and to authorize a Flint college scholarship program. The full Senate may vote in October.
