Family seeks help paying for pet's cancer treatments

SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

A local family is  asking for help to save their beloved pet Gucci.

As the vet bills pile up they said they're not ready to say goodbye just yet.

"I'm about to cry right now just thinking about it because she's just my family," Amber Heart said.

Her dog Gucci has been by her side for nine years. Gucci has cancer and is not expected to survive.

Heart said Gucci's medical bills have piled up. She created a GoFundMe account in hopes of getting a little help from TV5 viewers.

"We both work. We have bills to pay for. We're young and so we're struggling," Heart said.

One local vet said Gucci's story is a reason for all pet owners to get pet insurance.

"Treating cancer, especially osteosarcoma, can easily be thousands of dollars," Dr. David Wallace said.

Wallace is a vet at MidMichigan Veterinary Hospital. He said it's important to have pet insurance.

Heart said she did not have pet insurance. She said she would be grateful to get any help with Gucci's medical expenses.

"It would be amazing, like I would appreciate it. She would appreciate it because she knows how hard we're struggling. Even though she's just our dog, that is our family," Heart said.
