A Mid-Michigan elementary school has an interesting situation on their hands. If you think dealing with one set of twins sounds tough, imagine nearly a dozen.

Sterling Elementary School in Arenac County has 11 sets of twins enrolled, which is almost 10 percent of the entire student body.

With less than 300 students in kindergarten through fifth grade, the Vallad twins said having a lot of twins around is twice the fun.

"There are a lot of people here you can make friends with," Paige and Paisley Vallad said.

The twins' mom, Rachel Vallad, said she's not sure why there is a twin cluster at the school, but is happy the kids have each other.

"They have a lifelong bond, a best friend forever. Whether they know it now or not. They will have it forever. It would be kind of neat to have someone go through life with you side by side," she said.

The 2008 Census Bureau said multiple births only account for 3 percent of the population, but at Sterling it's 8 percent of student body.

Principal Clinton Potts said a teacher recently noticed a trend of the rising number of lookalikes and was astonished after counting the sets of twins.

"After it was brought to our attention and to the parents' attention, it was a little different that we have that many sets of twins and everyone was kind of surprised," Potts said.

Unfortunately, it's not a world record. That record is 24 sets of twins at one school.
