Safety officials host "Touch a Truck" event in Flint

Kids were busy throwing on the sirens and honking the horns on a variety of safety vehicles. the 5th annual touch the truck event happened today in flint. Ali cleaves came out today with his family and says this is a great event! 

"It gives the kids an opportunity to see different things....things that they have questions about." said Ali Cleaves

With tensions high in some communities due to shootings and riots. cleaves says he hopes this will bring everyone together.     

Hopefully it helps bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community." said Ali Cleaves

Kendrick Turner says it is really neat to be able sit in a real police car and a black hawk helicopter. His sister was able to play in the bounce house and even got her face painted. he says it was cool meeting so many safety officers. 

"Having fun! i think they are really good guys!" said Kendrick Turner

U of M Flint helped host the event...that was put on to help build a sense of community and bring families and enforcement together in a positive way. tropper Amy Bellanger says this event is very important to the Michigan State Police.

"Michigan State Police: it's all about building that relationship. and talking to the community. and if they have questions. we are happy to answers those for them." said trooper Amy Belanger

Ali Cleaves says this event came at the perfect time and hopes that this will ease tensions between police and the people. 

"A sense of community. and know that we do have some issues going on but there is some light at the end of the tunnel and hopefully we can work together and get to that day." said Ali Cleaves
