ANN ARBOR, MI (WNEM) -

If you're among the many who regularly branch off to US-23 for Ann Arbor, your traffic nightmare is about to ease up.

MDOT is taking bids for a project called a “flex route.”

Flex Route 23 will see the shoulder widened 13-feet, allowing it to occasionally serve as an auxiliary lane to ease backed up traffic during peak commutes between the cities of Brighton and Ann Arbor.

It's faster and cheaper than building a conventional traffic lane.

Construction begins in November and could be completed by spring.
