TV5 anchor stranded aboard cruise ship during Hurricane Matthew

GULF OF MEXICO (WNEM) -

Powerful Hurricane Matthew has weakened slightly, the National Hurricane Center reported. But it is expected to regain strength late Wednesday and into Thursday.

TV5's David Custer is aboard a cruise ship whose journey back to Miami is being held up because of Matthew.

He said there are others from Mid-Michigan on board as well.

"There's a lot of uncertainty. Communication is not the best," David said. "Everybody aboard the ship is OK. We're going to have another fun day at sea. We are out in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico, just northwest of Cuba. I think we're going to stay in this area for quite a while."

David's trip was originally scheduled for the Bahamas, but because of Matthew, had to be rerouted to Mexico.

He'll post updates on his Facebook page, just click here
